What makes presents so special?

It's the wrapping paper of course! Yes, ok we know the gift inside is important but the way a gift is wrapped is very important too.

However it is something you buy only to throw away! Along with confetti wrapping paper is in the list of things that ends up thrown away without a second glance! Tons of waste are generated each year from all that discarded wrapping paper!

Should we ban wrapping paper?

IF we're all keen to be green then should we stop using wrapping paper altogether? Of course no politician has mentioned the possibility of banning gift wrap yet but it might happen one day as we struggle to reduce the amounts we put into landfill.

Of course paper should be recycled so perhaps we need to ensure that our gift wrap is put out with the recycling rather than sent for landfill.
But before we look at reusing the gift wrap we get. This means being careful taking off the paper or using gift bags which can be recycled.
You could of course offset the carbon you use to wrap your gifts!
